but first…

I'd really, really appreciate if you'd leave a review on Amazon* and Goodreads. Reviews are extremely important to indie authors (like me!), and it would mean so much if you took a few minutes to leave a star rating with a 1-2 sentence review. It doesn't have to be anything fancy—just your honest thoughts.

As an example, here’s a recent review I left on Not Another Sarah Halls by Haley Newlin (another indie author!):

★★★★

This was my first official horror read, and I stayed up way too late finishing it. There were a few typos throughout, which caused a bit of confusion (e.g writing Bec instead of Aut), but overall the story was intriguing and captivating. I’m eager to read Haley’s next book!

Short, simple, and to the point.

Thank you in advance for your time and support. It means more than you'll ever know.

what’s next.

In 2021, I self-published Insomnia, A Middle-of-the-Night Haibun Collection, which I mention within Behind the Facade. I’ve already written and designed the (much more positive) sequel, which I’m debating self-publishing along with a DIY haibun journal. I’m also working on my first novel, with the goal of introducing readers to my favorite cities along the West Coast while shedding light on the realities of everyday marriage. I’m not sure if or when it’ll be published; for now, it’s just a hobby project.

additional thanks.

They say it takes a village to write a book… and that couldn’t be more true.

The acknowledgments in my book were due long before I met many of the editors, designers, and collaborators who brought the book to life, and I want to give those amazing people public thanks 🥰

Brianna DiPietro Radicioni: thank you for introducing me to the Book Creators program. It was the start of something amazing.

Eric Koester: thank you for welcoming my (business) book with open arms. While this definitely wasn’t the book we set out to write, it’s the book that needed to be written.

Haley Newlin: thank you for sharing your wisdom and work with the world. It was an honor to be on the call when you introduced yourself as Professor Newlin for the first time.

Shanna Heath: you were the DE of my dreams. Thank you for your patience as we seriously veered course. It took a while for this outline to come to life, and I am so grateful for your support and guidance in those initial phases.

Alyx Kostiuk: thank you for (probably unknowingly) pushing me to think deeper about my journey. Your questions sparked what would become the story/theme I'm most proud of in the book.

Emma Colvin: although our interaction was short, your feedback was extremely helpful and meaningful.

Bianca Myrtil: I truly couldn’t have done this without you. You were my lifeline through revisions and publishing. I am so grateful for our Friday morning meetings and all the time you spent mentoring and coaching me through the process.

Aleksandra Dabic: you brought my cover dreams to life. Thank you.

Barbara Jaffe: thank you for reading an early draft and providing a quote for the cover. I am so honored and grateful to have you in my corner.

Emily VanderBent: thank you for coordinating my video assets. They were the first glimpse that this book was real.

Kristy Carter: thank you for having my best interests at heart. I appreciate you taking the time to listen and jump in as needed (especially CE deadline day).

Amanda Brown: thank you for your copyediting support. Your attention to detail is amazing.

Nora Ma: thank you for proofreading my extra-long manuscript.

Mateusz Cichosz: thank you for the beautiful layout design and your extreme patience.

To the New Degree Press team that makes it all happen behind the scenes: Leila Summers, Gjorgji Pejkovski, Jamie T., ChandaElaine Spurlock, Natalie Bailey, Linda Berardelli, Heather Gomez, Lyn S, and Brian Bies. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

And last but certainly not least, a huge thank you to my long-lost writing partner, Lauren DiTullio, for keeping me sane through it all. I appreciate you so much.

I know I'm a writer and all, but I genuinely cannot find the words to express how grateful I am to each and every person above and in the book's acknowledgments. Thank you for making this girl's dream come true. I really, really hope the final product makes you proud.
